Ryzen AI Max 300 Strix Halo Leaks Promise a Hot Little Number

According to leaker
Golden Pig Upgrade Pack (using Google Translate) we might be in for a treat as AMD prepares Ryzen AI Max+ CPUs with up to 16 cores.

Not only this, but these chips are expected to pack some serious iGPU power, creating stiff competition for the likes of Apple and perhaps more importantly Intel with its latest mobile chips.

For High-Performance Laptops

These “Strix Halo” CPUs are meant for laptops aimed at gamers and creators. The chip is likely to feature two Zen 5 CCDs with up to eight cores each, and has a huge “chiplet” for the GPU, with up to 40 CUs.

For some perspective, the AMD Z1 Extreme GPU has 12 CUs using RDNA 3, and so the rumored chip series should significantly outperform that chip, especially given we’re looking at RDNA 3.5.

The lineup is purported to look like this:

  • Ryzen AI Max+ 395: 16 Zen 5 cores and an RDNA 3.5-based GPU with 2560 stream processors.

  • Ryzen AI Max 390: 12 Zen 5 cores and an RDNA 3.5-based GPU with 2560 stream processors.

  • Ryzen AI Max 385: 8 Zen 5 cores and an RDNA 3.5-based GPU with 2048 stream processors.

If these specifications are true, then we might be looking at potent thin-and-light gaming laptops that can easily hold their own at 1080p. However, don’t expect to be gaming on battery power, since these systems will be consuming well over 100W. Which also means that we shouldn’t expect an APU like this in a handheld PC soon either!
