Intel Xeon Workstation Computers
There
is no doubt that for professional computing applications Intel's Xeon
processors represent the pinnacle of performance. As fast and capable as
mainstream i5 and enthusiast i7 CPUs have become, they cannot hold a candle to
the latest Xeons. Xeon processors support error correcting memory, which is
crucial to prevent certain types of crashes and to ensure the calculation
integrity of serious professional work in field like engineering and
simulation.
Xeon CPUs also generally pack more cores per CPU and support having
more than one CPU on a single-motherboard. Simply put, the fastest possible
workstation machines you can buy today all run on Xeon hardware.
More
cores does generally mean lower clock speeds and if your intention is to build
a computer meant for gaming or that predominantly needs GPU power, but is not
highly threaded, then an i7 or even i5 may be better suited to that task. If on
the other hand you want a reliable server or fast and precise professional
workstation then look no further than a Xeon-based system.
